Concrete Paving Laying

Are you about to lay the concrete paving on your own? Read our our instructions + another 7 TIPS.

1. Step: Excavation

By laying the conrete paving blocks, it is necessary to prepare the general site excavation. The excavation shoud be about 30 cm wider than the width of the concrete paving surface. The excavation botton is required to be prepared in slope minimum0,5 alongside and 2,7% in crosswise to make the rain water drain away from the paving surface naturally.

Tip Number 1: It is recommended to use the paving roller in case of incohesive soil before the start of the paving laying. By using the paving roller, the excavation button will be reinforced.

2. Step: Choosing the aggregates

When the excavation is done, we can start laying the aggregates. The aggregates are fit to place in layers maximum 15 cm. It is mandatory to compress each layer with vibrating plate.

As a protective layer, the aggregates of fraction 16 - 32 mm is put on the excavation button, followed by a 10 cm thick flatten layer made of aggregates with fraction 4 – 16 mm. The top layer of the flatten layer must be plain ± 1 cm.

Tip Number 2: Attention! Each layer must be compressed with the vibrating plate. If you are not particular about the compressing, the paving blocks can go down irregularly after a while.

3. Step: Curbs Embedding

Next comes the curbs embedding. A concrete bed brings the stronghold to the paving surface. The curbs are embedded in a way that makes the upper edge in the same level or little higher than the surrounding space.

Tip Number 3: The edges of the paving surface are made stronghold by curbs which are embedded into the concrete, so the paving will keep the structure.

4. Step: Paving Bed

To create a paving bed you need two steel tubes between which the crushed aggregate of 4 – 8 mm is spread and after make flat with a slat.

Tip Number 4: Stepping on the paving bed is permitted. Create the paving bed of a size that you are able to lay in a given day.

5. Step: Paving Laying

Finally, we can start with the laying. Always start iin the lowest point of the paving bed and move to the highest point.. Do not forget to keep the width between the formats from 3 mm to 5 mm.

Tip Number 5: To achieve the same size of interspaces, it is recommended to lay the formats according to the leading line.

The ledges should not touch each other. The paving should be about 10 mm about the desired level of the paving surface. A 10 mm drop is expected after compressing.

6. Step: Jointing Sand over Paving Formats

After laying the paving formats comes the sweeping the siliceous sand 0-2 mm over the paving. No clayey rests in the sand are allowed.

Tip Number 6: The jointing material is spread into the interspaces. Before compressing, sweep properly to prevent the paving from scratches.

7. Step: Compressing

The paving surface is being compressed once in alongside and once in crosswise. After vibrating, the jointing material is added into the interspaces.

Tip Number 7: If needed, the jointing material is added to the interspaces after 2 or 3 weeks on.
